Year 5 and 6 Football

Yesterday, our Year 5 and 6 footballers travelled to Barnsley College to take part in a football competition. We were able to create three teams to ensure that everyone received plenty of game time. I was really proud to see that all of the hard work had paid off during our after school training sessions. Overall, we won the competition and brought home the trophy. Well done to all children who took part! There were some fantastic footballing displays and some people have given a very good impression of themselves for when we start the football league. There are still things to work at but we should be able to combat these problems at after school football. See you all on Tuesday!

Anglo-Saxons vs Vikings

In Year 5, we have been learning about the Anglo-Saxon and the Viking invasion of Britain. We had a debate about whether the Viking invasion of the monastery at Lindasfarne was justified. The children worked in groups to produce arguments, and then selected speakers to deliver the arguments and field questions from the opposition. The children worked very hard and raised some interesting points and worked well in groups.

Harvest Festival

In Year 5, we read a poem entitled Harvest Moon to celebrate the Harvest Festival. Bradley, Leah, Olivia, Heidi and Georgee all read extremely well in front of friends and family. We all helped collect food to be given to a food bank and are very grateful to anyone who donated.

Key Stage 2 are athletes!

Yesterday, children from Key Stage 2 travelled to Barnsley College to take part in a cross country competition. I knew that we were in a good position before we set off with the implementation of the Daily Mile across Key Stage 2. I didn’t know how good a position we were in until we arrived and began running. It was soon clear just how good our runners were. We were able to win the Year 3 girls, Year 4 girls, Year 5 girls and Year 6 girls’ races. This was a tremendous achievement for us and shows that the extra after school clubs that we have been running for the Y3, 4, 5 and 6 girls is beginning to have an impact. In addition to this, we also won the Y4 boys’ race. Our Year 4 boy ran an outstanding time and actually beat all of the Year 5 times. I am still awaiting results of the Year 6 times but a huge congratulations to this future potential Olympian. Overall, we also won the team competition which was a tremendous achievement. Everybody that finished their race gained points for our team so it really was a team race. GO TEAM KEXBOROUGH!
