PHSE CURRICULUM
PSHE is a non-statutory subject, which is taught alongside the statutory Relationships and Health Education. PSHE can encompass many areas of study often covering sensitive matters. PSHE is delivered weekly by the class teacher as they best understand the needs of their pupils and will adapt the delivery of their lessons to best cater the needs of their pupils.
At Kexborough Primary School we follow the ‘You, Me, PSHE’ scheme of work.
Following this scheme, we are able to provide a clear and well-balanced coverage of the subject. The scheme breaks up in to the following units of study:
2023/2024 Overview
RSE (Relationship and Sex Education)
Relationship and Sex Education is currently introduced to Y5 and taught in more detail during Year 6. Written permission from parents will be required in order for children to participate. Parents have the right to withdraw their children from sex education lessons with the exception of those elements which are part of the science National Curriculum but are asked to contact the Headteachers to discuss this in the first instance.
To support the teaching of RSE in Year 5 and Year 6 we use the Channel 4 Living and Growing resources. These resources cover four main themes / sessions. The first two are delivered in Year 5 with the second two being delivered in Year 6.
The requirement for all schools, including academies, to teach relationships education, and for all secondary schools to teach sex education, will be mandatory from September 2020.
