Today we learnt about measuring in metres (m). We looked at a metre stick and estimated things that were longer than one metre, shorter than one metre and about one metre in length. We used the metre stick to check if we were right. Next, we went around KS1 and estimated some longer distances. We then measured the lengths with a trundle wheel. We also measured each other! This half-term in PE, the children have been focusing on their gymnastic skills. We have been practising balances learned in Year One and learning new Year Two balances. We have then linked three balances together to create short solo sequences. The children have really amazed me with their fantastic flexibility. Well done Year 2! Key Stage One and FS2 gave a brilliant performance of "It's A Baby" last week. The children were amazing singers and performers and we are so proud of them all. Here are a few photos of the stars of the show... In our R.E. this term, we have learned about Diwali and enjoyed making our own Diwali lamps using salt dough to model the shape which would hold a tea-light candle. Year 2 had a fabulous time yesterday at the Lamproom Theatre. We watched Cinderella. All the children enjoyed the performance especially singing and dancing along.Today we have been learning about how to use an array to solve multiplication calculations.
The children used peg boards to show groups and were able to find the product by counting the pegs. This half term, KS1 have been learning some summer songs. Their singing and enthusiasm was such a joy to see that we had to share this with you. Can we take this time to say a huge thank you year 2 for an excellent year together. You have made me and Mrs Ellis so proud and we have seen you progress into the eager year 3 pupils you now are. Have a wonderful Summer and a much deserved rest and come back raring to go in September to tackle year 3! This week the children wrote their own independent instructions on how to make a fruit skewer. Today they followed their own instructions to make their own! Year 2 loved working out how many pieces of fruit we needed to cut and why fruit is so vital to our diet to give us a variety of vitamins and keep our bodies healthy. Although they all agreed that eating the skewer at the end was the best bit!
Today, year 2 went on a school trip to the Old Moor RSPB site. All the teachers were impressed with how well the children listened and took part in the activities. During the day we did some pond dipping where we discovered and classified minibeasts and creatures living in the pond. Then we also looked at plants on the site and discovered both common and rare flowers and trees. The children had a brilliant day!
